Deciding on your major

I have always been interested policy, so naturally I thought Political Science would be the best major for me. However, after my freshman EPPS class and after taking my first sociology course, I realized that what I am interested in is intersection of social issues and public policy. Together with my passion for non-profits, sociology was the perfect major that tied all of my interests together. Without the study of society and understanding patterns of social relationships and cross-cultural interactions we cannot create effective policies that will instigate the most change.

My EPPS Success

While at UT Dallas, I haven't met a single professor who wasn't passionate about what they do. This passion translates directly to their students and gives students the tools to be citizens of positive change The tight-knit community that EPPS offers is not like the rest of UT Dallas. The faculty within EPPS has been critical to my success at this university. Without their mentorship, I would have not come in contact with many of the opportunities I have been given.

Plans for the Future

Post-graduation, I want to work in in the public sector whether that is policy analysis, program evaluation, or advocacy. My goal is that within my career, I will work towards developing, implementing, and advocating for new policies to address public problems at the international, federal, state, and local level.

Advice to Prospective EPPS Students

Don't be afraid to challenge what you think you want to do with your life or try something new. Changing your major isn't out of the ordinary. I changed mine multiple times. With some self-reflection and exploring different interests you'll be able to find the right major that aligns with your goals and passions.
