Why did you decide on a PhD in Public Affairs?

The field of public policy and governance strike a strong chord in me. Prior to joining the Public Affairs program at UTD, I served as a researcher at Tata Institute of Social Sciences in India. As a researcher I had an opportunity to closely work on two major policies in India- the Corporate Social Responsibility and the Higher Education reforms. Consequently, in my pre-PhD career, I closely worked with the civil servants on various developmental issues affecting rural and urban poor. I learnt a lot in this journey, both from the field and from the policy makers. This learning experience culminated in my desire to strengthen my academic foundations in the field of public affairs.

What do you like about your Program at UT Dallas?

Life at UTD and particularly at EPPS has been an intellectually stimulating journey from the day one! The faculty in my department have always encouraged me to pursue new challenges and are always there to guide and support which makes learning an excitement. Without their encouragement this experience could not be so fulfilling and rewarding.

Plans for the Future

As I embark into second year of my PhD, my focus is on honing my research and analytical skills, and publishing papers in the field of comparative public administration.

Advice to Prospective EPPS Students

There are no limits to exploration at EPPS. Keep challenging yourself and you will see yourself growing each day. Learn more about the research work that your professors are engaged in and you might find something that excites you. EPPS faculty members are not only most valuable resources but are also most kind and supportive. Never hesitate to share your ideas, they will always be well-received.
