Deciding on Criminology

I’ve always had an interest in watching crime shows and reading about real life mystery cases, but I never knew I would be able to study this as a major. After researching the different opportunities within this field of study, I determined criminology would be a perfect fit for me. It combines the historical development of theories while touching on the causes and consequences of crimes. There are so many different perspectives and approaches you can take while looking at certain laws and cases, which keeping every class very interesting.crime.

My EPPS Success

The EPPS program is unlike any other throughout UT Dallas or other schools. Faculty members are so accomplished and each one is extremely passionate about what they do, in their own way. They set the standards high, but give you all the tools and information you need in order to work your way there. Every professor within this school is willing to go out of their way to help you and assist during the process of getting internships, scholarships, and jobs.

Plans for the Future

I aim to go on to receive my masters in the criminology program here at UT Dallas. I have yet to narrow down what I wish to do post-graduation because I have an interest in so many different fields. My ultimate career goal is to work at the FBI as a special agent or investigative specialist.

Advice for Prospective Students

Success can often be attributed to your level of effort and dedication within a field, but passion is extremely important as well. I believe loving what you do, or in this case what you’re studying, is essential if you wish to enjoy your collegiate life. Don’t be afraid to take classes outside your major and explore other interests and opportunities. Not only should you attend as many workshops and seminars as possible, but go into office hours and talk to your professors, they are there to help you succeed.

Other Interests

Traveling is one of my favorite things to do. I love seeing new places and experiencing different cultures that are unlike anything we are surrounded by here. When I’m not traveling, I usually enjoy spending my time outdoors, either running or hiking. I also have a super strong sweet tooth, which makes working at Tiff’s Treats perfect for me.
