Veteran Services Center
The Veteran Services Center (VSC) provides multi-faceted support for veteran and military-affiliated students from admission through graduation to facilitate achievement of academic and career goals. Military-affiliated students include veterans, current service members (active duty, guard, reserve), military spouses and dependents and ROTC cadets.
The VSC is located on the lower level of the Eugene McDermott Library and fosters community by way of a television lounge, study area, computers and free coffee. In addition to other events and activities planned throughout the year, the VSC works closely with Comet Athletics to arrange military-designated, military appreciation games.
Each Veterans Day, the VSC coordinates an educational event for the campus community and a reception to honor student, staff and faculty veterans. For 2015, activities included a come-and-go military showcase with items and memorabilia from current students, staff and faculty veterans. Attendees tried on military gear and taste-tested a MRE (Meal, Ready-to-Eat), which is a self-contained, individual ration for use in combat or other conditions where organized food facilities are not available.
Check the VSC’s website for information about other events and activities scheduled throughout the academic year.
Fun fact: UT Dallas has more than 150 staff and faculty members who served in the U.S. military.
