Campus Carry Implementation
Dear UT Dallas Community,
Aug. 1 marked the start of UT Dallas’ implementation of Senate Bill 11, which authorizes handgun license holders to carry concealed weapons on campus. In accordance with the new state law, UT Dallas must give notice to license holders specifying University spaces where the concealed carrying of a handgun is prohibited.
After further consideration of policies at other UT System campuses, UT Dallas has expanded its policy’s original exclusion zones to include sole-occupied offices that are not generally open to the public. The occupants of these offices may designate their spaces as exclusion zones if they choose. Please visit the FAQ webpage for more details.
Signs also are posted at entry points of buildings and spaces that are designated exclusion zones. These zones were determined in the development of the UT Dallas campus carry policy. Specific buildings designated as exclusion zones include:
- Callier Center-Richardson (CR)
- Natural Science and Engineering Research Laboratory (RL)
- Bioengineering and Sciences Building (BSB)
- University Commons Residence Halls (RHNW, RHN, RHS, RHSW, RHW) and the contiguous dining and recreational facilities: Dining Hall West (DHW) and Recreation Center West (RCW)
- Callier Center-Dallas
- Center for BrainHealth
Please see the campus map for the precise locations of these facilities. The UT Dallas campus carry policy also includes other restrictions and guidelines. The purpose of the policy is to comply with the law while maintaining the maximum safety and security of students, staff, faculty and guests. You can find more information about the policy on the UT Dallas campus carry webpage. In addition, you can read about the implementation of the policy here. You also may email your comments or concerns to [email protected].
