Winter Break with Your Student
If you have a student who is coming back home after living on campus, you may notice a few differences since move-in days back in August. Over the last several months, your student has gained a new sense of independence. He or she may want to stay up later, sleep all day, and frequently communicate with old friends or new friends they met on campus, rather than spend time with you.
As a family, communication is key. Set expectations such as house rules, chores and curfew requirements in advance, and recognize this time is a transition for all. While you will notice some changes with your student, enjoy them as the new, more independent adult they have become.
