Announcement

Dear UT Dallas community,

We are pleased to announce that the Galerstein Women’s Center is changing its name to the Galerstein Gender Center.

The new name reflects the center’s services for women, the LGBT+ community and the entire UT Dallas community.

Founded in 1996, the center has grown into a campus resource for students, faculty and staff through the Office of Diversity and Community Engagement . The center will continue to foster an inclusive environment by advocating for gender equity through leadership development, education, programs and services.

We invite you to visit the Galerstein Gender Center (GGC) and find out how you can become involved.

For more information, please contact the GGC at 972-883-6555, located in SSB 4.300.

Sincerely,

Richard C. Benson
President
Eugene McDermott Distinguished University Chair of Leadership

*******************************************************

The Galerstein Gender Center (GGC) has been in existence since 1996, representing gender issues in our campus and community. The Center actively promotes a prosperous and successful environment through mentoring, advising and professional counseling, equitable policy review, climate assessment, lectures addressing gender diversity and social justice, leadership development, child care resources, community engagement, and advocacy for women and the LGBT+ community. GGC is a department of the Office of Diversity and Community Engagement.

The GGC is home to the FIRST dedicated lactation space on campus for nursing mothers (see page on more Lactation Facilities on campus). We provide meeting, study space, and a lending library. We offer professional counseling services, diversity scholarships, internships, volunteer opportunities and organizational advising.

We invite you to visit the Center and find out how you can become involved.

SAFE ZONE

SAFE ZONE is a national concept in which safe spaces are identified and marked with a symbol unique to each campus. By displaying the SAFE ZONE logo on a department door, office or desk, Allies show that they value a diverse campus community, are willing to foster a safe place for others, and are committed to offer support, resources, and guidance.

You can become a SAFE ZONE Ally by attending Ally Training. Ally Training provides a venue for LGBT+ people, Allies and participants to express concerns, ask questions, and learn about issues affecting the LGBT+ campus and surrounding community. After completion of the training, participants will receive a certificate, SAFE ZONE logo, resources, and will be equipped with the tools necessary to:

  • Respond appropriately
  • Know resources and/or where to find them
  • Show support and safeguard the rights of LGBT+ people
  • Examine his/her own attitudes, behaviors, and values, and to challenge others to do the same
  • Appreciate and value the contributions of LGBT+ people

Currently, the Galerstein Gender Center holds two Ally Trainings per semester, which provides a venue for LGBT+ people, Allies and participants to express concerns, ask questions, and learn about issues affecting the LGBT+ campus and surrounding community.

SAFE ZONE Ally Training is open to all UT Dallas as well as community members. Parking information and lunch will be provided. Vegetarian option available upon request.
