Department of Geosciences

School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

The undergraduate program in geosciences is designed to help students attain greater understanding of past and present Earth processes. Geoscientists study the minerals, rocks, fluids, and fossils of the Earth and investigate the physical, chemical, and biological processes occurring on and in the Earth. Students also will have the opportunity to study outdoors and conduct hands-on research during field camp.

Professional opportunities in geology abound in the following areas:

  • the environmental, energy, and mineral resources industries
  • government agencies associated with these fields
  • occupations concerned with law, management, economics, and the environment

Specific degree plans will be formulated by the undergraduate advisor in geosciences. Changing circumstances may require changes to the degree plans.
