Professional Development

UT Dallas supports employees’ professional development pursuits through a variety of means.

BRIGHT Leaders

The BRIGHT Leaders platform is a vision for leadership and professional development at UT Dallas. BRIGHT Leaders is an inclusive program that enables the success of all UTD employees by providing growth opportunities for staff and faculty at all levels. Participants can learn leadership principles and access tools so they may “Lead from Where You Are”, and that support and nurture the professional development of bold, responsible, high-performing, and transformative leaders. The program is hosted virtually via MS Teams and is an open resource of articles, book recommendations, videos, in person and on-line classes, and leadership pathways with core classes and recommendations for a more structured development plan for those who desire.

For more information on the BRIGHT Leaders platform, please view our BRIGHT Leaders webpage.

Virtual Learning Platforms

UTD Talent Development understands that with many employees and roles at the University, employees are looking for a variety of training and professional development opportunities. To ensure employees can access a vast range of training opportunities, the University of Texas at Dallas provides employee access to multiple Virtual Learning Platforms, namely, Academic Impressions, LinkedIn Learning, Skillsoft Percipio, and many others. These platforms offer a vast quantity of engaging, high-quality trainings, taught by subject-matter experts, to our university employees.

For more information about these Virtual Learning Platforms and how to access training materials, please view our BRIGHT Leaders Resources webpage.

Career Development and Continued Education

UT Dallas supports employees pursuing additional career development such as:

  • Earning a degree or taking job-related classes
  • Attending accredited vocational schools
  • Completing a professional certification
  • Attending conferences or other professional learning events

Each department has professional development funding allotted for employee use at the supervisor’s discretion. Talk with your supervisor about your goals and professional development activities that can help you achieve them.

In addition, UT Dallas offers Employee Tuition Assistance for eligible employees to enroll in up to six hours of regular academic credit per semester at a reduced rate.

Staff members should also visit the Staff Council website to review scholarship opportunities for professional development.
