Resources for Faculty, Staff and Students Dealing with Winter Storm Crisis

May 11, 2021

As we continue to manage the challenges of COVID-19, we recognize that the additional strain and impact of the recent winter storm on UT Dallas colleagues, friends and family may be overwhelming. We want to remind you of resources available to employees and their families in times of crisis.

UT Dallas employees and members of their households who need emotional or mental health support can access Deer Oaks employee assistance program (EAP) 24/7. Sessions can vary from a single session up to seven sessions, depending on the individual need, at no cost to the employee. Also, the EAP’s work/life services can help find local resources such as emergency plumbers, shelters, food banks and other critical needs. Please contact Deer Oaks EAP at 888-993-7650.

Also, employees and dependents covered under Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas have 24/7 access to behavioral health counseling at no cost through MDLIVE. This allows them to speak to a licensed counselor, therapist or psychiatrist for support with issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, loss or relationship problems. Please visit MDLIVE or call 888-680-8646 for registration information.

In addition, Morneau Shepell, a counseling organization that provides remote support services, is available to students, staff, faculty and their family members in need of emotional support. Professional counselors are available to offer real-time, single-session emotional support on a 24/7 crisis line. Please call the Morneau Shepell support line at 877-757-7587.

We encourage you to utilize these resources to ensure your own well-being and that of your family. Please take care and stay safe.
