Connecting with International Students
iFriend is a cultural exchange program that allows students to learn about new cultures and make new friends! American students are grouped with international students. iFriends meet once per week for eight weeks to discuss cultural topics and take part in cultural activities. Registration opens at the beginning of each long semester (Fall and Spring). To be put on an interest list, email [email protected].
International Week (iWeek) is held every April, and is a tradition that celebrates the cultural diversity of UT Dallas. Attend Passport to the World and the International Talent Show to immerse yourself in the culture of UTD’s international students. Other events include Henna, Table Tennis and Badminton Tournaments, and World Beats Dance Party. iWeek also offers many opportunities to volunteer.
International Education Week
International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. IEW occurs each November, to coincide with national IEW, and includes events to recognize and celebrate study abroad champions.
Engage in weekly conversations on a variety of topics with a cultural twist! This class is held on Tuesday afternoons during the semester from 4 to 5p.m. and check the Comet Calendar for session topics and dates. All students are welcome!
International Student Orientation
Volunteer to be an International Student Mentor (ISM) at International Student Orientation. ISMs lead small group discussion and group activities with new international students to help students acclimate to UT Dallas and US academic culture. ISMs are recruited in May of each year. Cultural Student Organizations
UT Dallas is home to many cultural student organizations, which celebrate and connect students from India, China, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Vietnam, Iran, and many more. Organization meetings are open to everyone, regardless of their cultural heritage, and a list can be found in Presence.
The Confucius Institute at UT Dallas is dedicated to teaching people about Chinese language and culture. They host Chinese classes, calligraphy lessons, tea ceremonies, and more.
