Digital Research Pioneer’s Talk to Explore New Media Possibilities

Dr. Anne Balsamo, a pioneer in digital humanities research, will explore public interactives – technological devices that invite participation in communal spaces – as a new media form in a UT Dallas Distinguished Lecture on Thursday, Feb. 18.

The talk is at 4 p.m. in the Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology Building’s Lecture Hall.

Balsamo is dean of the School of Media Studies at The New School, New York City. She is the author of several books on the convergence of cultural studies, digital media and technology innovations.

UT System Statements Sum Up Salary and Perks Package
The UT System has introduced “UT REWARD$ 4U — My Total Rewards Statement,” which offers an account of each benefits-eligible UT Dallas employee’s compensation and benefits package.

The new statement totals the annualized value of each employee’s salary plus longevity and other state and UT Dallas benefits. The statements are based on each individual's estimated earnings and benefit selections as of Dec. 1 and will be updated annually.

The statements are available online:

  1. Navigate to the My UT Benefits website.
  2. Click the Single Sign On (SSO) option under “Login Using My.”
  3. Choose The University of Texas at Dallas from the drop down list of campuses and click Select.
  4. Enter your UT Dallas Net ID and password and click on Login.
  5. Select the Total Compensation tab if you are not directed there automatically.

Pilot Who Flew Beyond Barriers to Discuss Diversity Challenges

Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour
Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour, the first African-American female combat pilot in the U.S., will talk about “Driving Diversity Deep into the DNA of Your Organization” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22.

The presentation will be in the Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology Building lecture hall.

FY16 Annual Compliance Training Due Date is Approaching

Less than two weeks remain to complete the required compliance training modules in eLearning. All faculty and staff members are required to take the online classes by Feb. 29. Call Institutional Compliance at 972-883-2233 if you have questions or concerns regarding completion of the training.

Spring Cleaning and Recycling

RecycleMania
UT Dallas is participating in RecycleMania, an eight-week competition and benchmarking tool for colleges and universities to promote waste reduction and increase recycling on campus. Faculty and staff can help by making recycling part of office spring cleaning. Email [email protected] if you need additional recycling or shredding bins. The last day of RecycleMania is Saturday, April 2.

In addition, remember to recycle your toner and ink cartridges in the Staff Council collection bins across campus. Each donated toner or cartridge raises money for the Staff Council Scholarship Fund.

UT Dallas Parking and Transportation has expanded the Zagster bike-sharing program by adding three campus locations. The new stations are near Green Hall (pictured), JSOM and the walkway between parking lots A and B. Learn more online.

Wear Red for Luck for the Chinese New Year and a Dining Discount

Presentation to Discuss Effect of Food Taste on Waistlines

“How Taste Affects Your Waist” will be the topic of a UT Dallas Wellness Committee nutrition “lunch and learn” session at noon Wednesday, March 2, in Galaxy Rooms A and B (SU 2.602). The session, planned in part to mark National Nutrition Month, will be presented by Wellness Manager Deborah Hamlin, RD, LD; nutritionist Sara Asberry, MS, MBA, RD; and chef Gene Christiano of Chartwells. Mobile Mammography Unit to Visit Campus Feb. 26
The UT Southwestern Mobile Mammography Unit will be on campus 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, on the east side of the Edith O’Donnell Arts & Technology Building. UT Dallas faculty, staff and spouses may schedule mammogram appointments by calling 214-645-2560 or 866-277-0710. Have your health insurance information available when you call. Sponsored mammograms are available for patients without health care coverage.

Police Offer Free Self-Defense Classes for Men and Women
The UT Dallas Police Department will continue its two-day Rape Aggression Defense classes for women and Resisting Aggression with Defense classes for men this semester. The schedule is as follows:

  • Women’s classes: Feb. 19-20, April 8-9 and June 10-11.
  • Men’s classes: March 11-12 and May 6-7.
