UT Dallas recently recognized faculty and staff members who have reached employment milestones with the University at the 30th Annual Service Awards.

The ceremony on Nov. 18 honored 326 employees for their commitment and contributions to the University’s mission. This year’s honorees have collectively accrued 3,145 years of service.

Fifteen employees topped the list with 40 years. The University honors employees each fall who have reached multiples of five years of service.  Read more

University to Reduce Some Services Before the Winter Holidays

Comet Cabs

The last day of Comet Cab service for the fall semester will be Wednesday, Dec. 7, in preparation for winter break. Service will resume on Monday, Jan. 9.

Comet Cruiser

The Comet Cruiser will run on reduced schedule from Friday, Dec. 16, to Tuesday, Jan. 3. The McCallum Express, the Cityline/Bush Express Pilot Route and the McCallum Connection Pilot Route will not run during this time. On Sunday, Dec. 25, and Sunday, Jan. 1, DART Route 883 East and DART Route 883 West will still run on their regular Sunday schedules. All routes will resume their normal service on Wednesday, Jan. 4.

Parking Structures to Close Top Levels

On Monday, Dec. 19, the top levels of Parking Structures 1, 3 and 4 will close in preparation for the possibility of ice and snow over the winter break. During this time, vehicles with green permits will be allowed to park on Level 4. For safety, vehicles parked on the top levels of the structures after Dec. 19 will remain there until the levels are reopened. The top levels will reopen the morning of Jan. 2, weather permitting.

Sign Up to Get Your W-2 Form Electronically

As tax season nears, the Payroll Office is asking employees to make sure their address information and W-2 form preferences are up-to-date. Log in to Galaxy and navigate to Self Service / Staff Tools / Personal Information to verify that your address is current. If you have not already, consider electing to receive your W-2 electronically.

Benefits of the electronic W-2 include receiving your form earlier, the capability to print multiple copies and the ability to retrieve previous years' W-2s. Sign up now at Galaxy Self Service / Staff Tools / Payroll and Compensation / W-2 Consent. If you have consented previously to receive your W-2 electronically, you don't need to do so again. Update on Fair Labor Standards Act

On Nov. 22, a federal injunction blocked the implementation of the Fair Labor Standards Act Final Rule, leaving employers to decide on how best to proceed based on the information gathered over the past five months.

On Dec. 1, the University reclassified designated employees to non-exempt status in accordance with the job duties test based on information reviewed during the planning process. This was done to make sure that comp time or overtime is applied accordingly for those who qualify under the act.

Wellness Lunch and Learn: Trim the Tree, Trim the Fat

Faculty and staff are invited to attend a free lunch and learn on Thursday, Dec. 15, from noon to 1 p.m. in JSOM 1.508.

Taylor Tran, employee health program manager and registered dietitian, and Frankie Branham, coordinator of recreational sports and fitness instructor, will share healthy tips on how to keep your waistline intact during the holidays. Lunch will be provided and space is limited, so please RSVP to [email protected].

Wellness Survey
Faculty and staff members are invited to participate in a survey for the Campus Wellness Committee, which is seeking feedback on interest in wellness programs and events.

Self-Defense Classes
The UT Dallas Police Department will offer free self-defense classes for staff, faculty and students at the UT Dallas Police Department (northeast corner of Parking Lot A). Upcoming classes will be from 5 to 9 p.m. on the following dates:

  • R.A.D. for Women — Dec. 12-14, Jan. 18-20, Feb. 16-18, March 14-16.
