Former Career Center Director Jerry Moore Dies at 92

Jerry Moore

Jerry Cocreham Moore, the director of the UT Dallas Career Center for 19 years, died in May at the age of 92.

As director of career planning and placement from 1976 to 1995, Moore helped hundreds of students find jobs and careers. Many of those students credited her with helping them find their direction in life and kept in touch with her long after they graduated.

"She was really a mentor to me," said Susan Chizeck, a faculty member in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies who worked with Moore during her time at UT Dallas. “When I first began this work with students wanting internships, she immediately shared her resources with me. She would meet with each student, then make lots of phone calls to set up interviews for them all over the Metroplex. She seemed to be on friendly terms with all the major employers and had great success placing students.”

She was born March 27, 1925, in San Antonio, but spent most of her childhood in Trinity, Texas. In 1948, she married Joe Grady Moore, Jr., a Purple Heart recipient in World War II. He passed away in 2005. Jerry is survived by her children Joe Grady Moore III and Antoinette “Toni” Moore.
