Twirly Birds Archive

Founded in 1945 to commemorate pioneering advances in related to the operation of helicopters, the Twirlybirds is an organization open to anyone who have soloed helicopter or vertical take-off aircraft or completed a flight in a vertical liftoff aircraft prior to Victory in Japan (VJ) Day ,1945; anyone who soloed a helicopter in a sustained and complete flight at least twenty years ago; and any individual not a rotary wing pilot, but who has made an outstanding contribution of twenty years or more to the field of helicopter aviation.

In 2010, The Twirlybirds established an endowment, and declared the University of Texas at Dallas History of Aviation Collection their official repository. There are currently two collections:
