“Africa was born in me.”

That was the theme of the annual Africa Night, which the African Student Union hosted earlier this month to showcase and embrace African culture.

“Africa Night is to remind people that no matter where they come from they can come together and celebrate their cultural roots,” said Warona Mathuba, a neuroscience senior and vice president of the student organization.

A flag ceremony highlighted a number of African countries and cultures during the celebration.

Psychology senior Blessedness Onaiwu performed on his saxophone.

Habesha Student Union showcased their heritage through dance.

Alex Charles BS’18 and sophomore Axum Taylor showcased their vibrant-colored garments.

Throughout the night, participants celebrated both modern and traditional aspects of African culture, including fashion. With sleek designs and traditional prints, the outfits worn were a display of unique heritage.
