Full Harvest Moon

Get a glimpse of the world as seen through the lens of UTD President Richard C. Benson.

“A Hiker’s Guide to the Great Outdoors,” which features Benson’s photography of landscapes and night skies, is on exhibit in the new Nebula Gallery, on the third floor of the Eugene McDermott Library.

Over the years, Benson has shot close-ups of flora and fauna, snapped waterfalls found during treks and photographed landmarks. Depending on the time of year, he ventures outside to capture the moon and various planets in close conjunction in the night sky.

He took up photography while living in Rochester, New York – a city known as a hub for optics and imaging giants such as Kodak, Xerox and Bausch and Lomb.

Benson cites several people, including his daughter Stephanie and his son James, for influencing his journey as a photographer. Others include Pat and Nancy Artis and Jim Stroup, chief photographer for Virginia Tech.

The exhibit runs Oct. 19 through Dec. 20. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and on Saturday, Nov. 10.
