The Multicultural Center looks for students for the next academic year each spring semester.

Upcoming Interest Sessions

The minimum qualifications include*:

  • Must be currently enrolled, full-time student at UT-Dallas
  • Must have a minimum of a 2.75 cumulative grade point average
  • Must be able to demonstrate written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Work authorization in the United States is required

Our positions include:

Diversity Peer Educator+

The Peer Educator is responsible for creating and planning educational Diversity workshops & programs on diversity issues that are student focused. The peer educator will work closely with Coordinator of Diversity Education. In addition, the peer educator will demonstrate an interest, passion, commitment, and willingness to learn about diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency. The peer educator must possess a desire to educate their peers on diversity issues, a great attitude, and excellent presentation skills.

Duties include:

  • Create, plan, and attend diversity education programs
  • Assist and lead diversity education presentations, workshops, and activities
  • Assist with marketing and promotion of diversity education programs
  • Contact and create connections with student organizations
  • Serve as guide and mentor for other students

Graphic Design & Marketing Assistant+

The Graphic Design & Marketing Assistant is a talented student who excels in graphic design and photography. The position will aid the Assistant Director of Programs & Marketing in building & maintaining the brand of the Multicultural Center. Responsibilities in this role will vary greatly, giving the student employee chance to be creative in tasks such as: creating logos, brochures, advertisements, apparel, promotional items, presentations, and graphics for the web, our magazine, and social media. This position will also be responsible for taking photos and editing them.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Exceptional decision making skills and autonomy
  • Exceptional written and communication skills
  • Able to work under tight deadlines and in a fast paced environment
  • Strong sense of curiosity and creativity
  • Advanced knowledge and proven application of Adobe Creative Cloud (CC), Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Understanding of typography and design principles
  • Advanced Photography skills

Duties include:

  • Create print and digital media to advertise Multicultural Center programs, events, initiatives and services
  • Aid in the creation of marketing & advertising plans for Multicultural Center initiatives
  • Assist with maintaining the Multicultural Center website
  • Aid in managing Multicultural Center social media sites
  • Work 15 office hours per week including some nights and weekends
  • Attend weekly staff meeting and bi-weekly supervisor meeting
  • Attend Safe Zone & Comet Pride Customer Service Trainings & Circles Conference

Multicultural Peer Advocate+

The Multicultural Peer Advocates (MPAs) are responsible for participating in the planning, coordinating, and implementation of the Multicultural Center’s cultural celebrations. These students provide peer advising, general office assistance, and assistance in recruitment of minority students. They also participate in Welcome Week programming, implement social media strategy and are knowledgeable of UTD policies, rules and regulations.

Duties include:

  • Create, plan & implement cultural events for the UT Dallas campus
  • Research history & culture in order to create cultural programs & events
  • Represent and promote the Multicultural Center to students and the entire campus community
  • Serve as a role model for UT Dallas students, assist students with academic success, personal and social issues
  • Collaborate with student organizations & student leaders to create cultural events
  • Refer students to appropriate offices and resources on campus as needed
  • Work 15 office hours per week including some nights and weekends
  • Promote department events and initiatives
  • Represent the Multicultural Center At University-wide functions (Welcome Week, Freshmen Move-In, Scholars Weekend. Homecoming)
  • Serve as a liaison to various cultural student organizations
  • Attend Safe Zone & Comet Pride Customer Service Trainings & Leaders Meet Conference
  • Attend NACA Huge Leadership Weekend & an additional diversity related conference during the academic year

Office Assistant+

The Office Assistant will serve in a primarily clerical role. Office Assistants are expected to promote an atmosphere of professionalism and to be courteous and helpful to all with whom they have contact. The Office Assistants’ main focus is to make the MC a warm, welcoming place to be.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Typing
  • Data Entry
  • Filing
  • Exceptional customer service skills includes telephone and in-person reception
  • Working with confidential information
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Duties include:

  • Serve as receptionist, which includes answering phones, taking messages, routing phone calls and greeting and assisting students and other visitors as they enter the Center
  • Participate in training at the beginning of the school year and periodically as needed
  • Provide office support including typing, data entry, copying, faxing, filing, preparing and/or hanging flyers or bulletin boards, and other support as needed (e.g., help prepare for or staff a program in the Student Union, internet searches)
  • Promote events & celebrations sponsored by the Multicultural Center
  • Pick up and distributing mail or documents around campus, when required
  • Ensure that the desk area, study room, computer lab and TV lounge are in order, including restocking brochures, flyers and kitchenette area
  • Monitor the noise level of the Study Room. If students are speaking loudly enough to disturb those who are trying to study, asking them to lower the level or go into the TV Lounge
  • Remind students that we don’t allow food in the Computer Lab
  • Tallying and recording visitor numbers, subsequently breaking them down (once per month)
  • Manage loaned items for programming & entertainment
  • Respond as instructed to get help in case of emergency
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Student Success Assistant+

The Student Success Assistants are responsible for supporting the development, coordination, and implementation of the Multicultural Center’s retention-focused programs for traditionally underrepresented minority students at UT-Dallas. These student employees will also contribute to the implementation of other Multicultural Center programming, including diversity-focused-events and signature events. *Please note that this position requires applicant(s) be a U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident or have completed undergraduate studies at a university in the United States.*

Duties include:

  • Assist with the planning & implementation of the MC’s Hispanic Leaders Training, Hispanic Leaders’ Forum, and Hispanic Leaders’ Banquet
  • Assist with the program development, promotion, and implementation of Operation I AM: Black Student Leadership Weekend and MC Leaders’ Retreat
  • Work with assigned student organizations to plan and execute end-of-year Harambee Celebration Dinner
  • Assist in the coordination of any MC Student Leadership Conference Travel by designated student organizations
  • Serve as student liaison to designated student organizations
  • Other tasks as assigned
