Campus Utility Work to Interrupt Electrical Power

Outage on Sunday, July 27, is Needed to Prepare Lines for New Residential Hall

July 22, 2008

A second scheduled electric power service interruption is planned for Sunday, July 27, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the Richardson campus so work crews can reroute the university’s main power lines.

Workers will be relocating overhead power lines to accommodate construction of UT Dallas’ new living, learning residence hall.  Efforts will be made to support all critical loads by emergency power generators during the outage.

Every campus building will be affected, with the exception of the following:

  • Waterview Science and Technology Building (WSTC).
  • Waterview Park Apartments.
  • Records Storage Building (OSB).
  • New and old facilities management buildings (PP).
  • Police/Garage/Grounds Building (PG).
  • Service Building (SB).
  • Callier Center Richardson (CR).
  • Magnetic observatory.

The University Village Apartments will not be affected by the outage.

The IR HelpDesk also will be closed during its normal Sunday operating hours of 1 to 5 p.m.

Students, faculty and staff should turn off all computers and electronic equipment before leaving their work stations on Friday or Saturday.  These shutdowns will help reduce the chance of problems.

For safety reasons, all buildings will be closed during the outage, and no one will be permitted to enter or work in any buildings on campus.

All services are expected to be restored within three hours after completion of the electrical work.  In the event of rain, the outage will be canceled.

The first scheduled power outage took place on June 29, when Oncor relocated meters and rerouted power lines.  A final outage is expected in September.
