The School of Arts and Humanities has scheduled events this week that include a bilingual reading, a theater production, an a cappella choir performance and a memorial guitar concert.

On Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jonsson Performance Hall, The Center for Translation Studies at UT Dallas will present a bilingual reading by Mexican writer Luis Jorge Boone and his translator George Henson, who is also a lecturer in Spanish at the University. La Noche Canibal, or The Cannibal Night, is the first of Boone’s work to appear in English translation.

In his fiction, Boone’s characters are “oppressed by their fears, tyrannized by their weaknesses, and confused by their own dreams.”

The event is free and open to the public.

UT Dallas students will present Picasso at the Lapin Agile from Feb. 21- 23, starting at 8 p.m. in the University Theatre.

The comedy, the first written by Steve Martin for the stage, places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian café in 1904, just before the famous scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism.

The show is free to students, faculty and staff members presenting their UT Dallas Comet Cards the evening of the event. In addition, students and staffers may buy up to four additional tickets for the event at the discounted price of $5.

General admission tickets for the show is $15 and $10 for non-UT Dallas students.

The Swingle Singers, an a cappella group, will present their repertoire that includes classical, jazz, Latin, pop and rock, all accompanied by their own vocal rhythm section. The Swingle Singers will be joined by the UT Dallas Chamber Singers.
