University Receives Award for Its Role in Northside Development

Northside, which is expected to open this fall, will offer 600 beds and more than 20,000 square feet of retail, with a combination of apartments, townhomes, stores, restaurants and entertainment venues.
The Richardson Economic Development Partnership (REDP), in partnership with the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and Richardson Rotary Club, recently presented The University of Texas at Dallas and co-developers Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions and Wynne/Jackson with a 2015 EDGE Award for the Northside commercial real estate project.
Located on 13 acres just north of campus across Synergy Park Boulevard, Northside is a $54 million mixed-use development that is the first piece of a multiphase master plan that will eventually include a DART station. The University leased the land to the developers who are building and managing the property. The 370,000-square-foot development will offer 600 beds and more than 20,000 square feet of retail, with a combination of apartments, townhomes, stores, restaurants and entertainment venues.
"It has been a team effort that has resulted in Northside achieving this milestone, and it is rewarding to be acknowledged by the Richardson Chamber and the city for the overall development of this destination location,” said Dr. Calvin Jamison, vice president for Administration. “UT Dallas is a strong economic engine for Richardson and North Texas, and we look forward to continuing to support the growth of our community.”

The University is one of 13 recipients honored with a 2015 EDGE Award, which stands for Economic Development, Growth and Expansion.
Northside, which is already leasing apartment space from a temporary office next to the Synergy Park North building, will include a parking garage, surface parking lot and residential amenities, such as a pool and dog park. The central “spine” of the development is planned to provide a parklike pedestrian mall that can be closed off to accommodate events.
The project broke ground in April 2015 and is expected to be complete this fall.
