Naveen Jondal School of Management

U.S. News & World Report ranks the Naveen Jindal School of Management’s online graduate business programs No. 2 and its online MBA program No. 7.

The Naveen Jindal School of Management at UT Dallas continues to prove it's a leader in online learning programs for graduate management education, as evidenced by its high placement in two new rankings from U.S. News & World Report

Released this week, the 2017 Best Online Programs Rankings placed both the school’s online MBA and online graduate business programs in the top 10. The Jindal School’s online graduate business programs jumped to No. 2 from No. 4. The online MBA program moved up to No. 7 from No. 9.

The upward movement continues a trend that began in 2015 when U.S. News separated MBA program rankings from other master’s degree program rankings.

“These rankings are just a few years old, but the Jindal School has strived to be a catalyst for innovation in online education since the mid-’90s,” said Dr. Hasan Pirkul, dean of the Jindal School and Caruth Chair. “We are gratified that U.S. News recognizes our efforts in this area.”

In addition to the Professional MBA Online degree — the only Jindal School program considered for the MBA ranking — nearly every master of science degree offered at the school can be earned online, depending on which electives are taken.

“Since we are such a large business school, we have the resources and wherewithal to be able to offer a wide variety of courses both on campus and online,” said Dr. Monica Powell, senior associate dean. “That flexibility and convenience help our students further their education while balancing the demands of work and family life.”

For this year’s rankings, U.S. News used both traditional metrics, such as student engagement, peer reputation and selective admissions, and nontraditional metrics, including student services and technology that facilitates distance learning, as well as faculty credentials/training for delivering online education.

The two rankings weighted the categories slightly different. Online MBA rankings focused more on traditional metrics, while the graduate business programs' rankings gave a greater emphasis to the nontraditional categories. The highest possible score in both rankings was 100. The Jindal School scored 96 for its graduate business programs and 87 for its online MBA program.

Data was collected between August and October of last year from 255 schools for the online MBA list and 141 schools for the rankings that included all other online business programs.
