UTD Chess Team To Be Featured Monday
On 'Daybreak' Newscast on Channel 8

Members of the national champion University Of Texas at Dallas (UTD) chess team will be interviewed by Mike Castellucci, known as the “Why Guy,” during the “Daybreak” newscast on WFAA Channel 8 on Monday, Jan. 19.

Beginning with “teasers” at 6 and 6:10 a.m. , a full news profile at 6:22 a.m. and a rerun at 6:45 a.m. , the story will feature team members discussing the game of chess and their recent win at the Pan American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship in Miami -- the top tournament of its kind held each year in the Western Hemisphere.

UTD now has won or tied for first place in three of the last four Pan Am tournaments and has won two of the three “Final Four” of College Chess competitions since that tournament's inaugural event in 2001.

UTD President Dr. Franklyn Jenifer hosted a reception in honor of the members of the number one-ranked collegiate team Friday afternoon on campus.
