To Visit Campus One Day After Appointment

Dr. David E. Daniel, appointed today by The University of Texas System Board of Regents to become the next president of The University of Texas at Dallas, will visit the UTD campus tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 11, to meet with students, faculty and staff of the university and others, including interested members of the news media. He will be joined by his wife and son.

Daniel, currently professor of civil engineering and dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was named successor to President Dr. Franklyn Jenifer, who is retiring after more than 10 years as head of the university. Following a meeting on Friday morning with senior university staff and a luncheon with area legislators, members of the UTD Development Board and other community guests, Daniel will attend a “campus welcome” beginning at 2 p.m. in the Davidson Auditorium in the School of Management building. All interested members of the university, including students, faculty and staff, are invited to attend the event, which will include a reception afterward in the building’s atrium.
