The UTD Top 100 Business School Research Rankings™ showed the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania leading U.S. and foreign business–school scholarly output for the seventh straight year.
The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University retained its hold on No. 2 among national and international schools for the third consecutive year, the study revealed.
The Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan ranked third on both lists. The Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University came in at No. 4, and Harvard Business School held steady in the No. 5 position, which it has occupied for two years.
These results appear in The UTD Top 100 Business School Research Rankings™, a compilation that reports faculty research productivity based on scholarly works published in leading academic journals over a five–year period. The rankings show the top 100 schools in North America and the top 100 worldwide.
The standings have followed business–school faculty output since 1990 in 24 peer–reviewed journals, and the School of Management began reporting the rankings in 2004. Current–year rankings are based on the number of articles published in those journals from 2006 to 2010.
The UT Dallas School of Management’s own faculty productivity has risen dramatically in recent years, from No. 36 in North America in 2004 to No. 17 in 2008. The school moved into the top 20 both in North America and worldwide, ranking No. 15 in North America and No. 16 globally.

They gain in the classroom from progressive thinking, the proving and disproving of ideas and theories, the widening body of knowledge. Our progress in these rankings underscores our commitment to be the best and offer them the best.”
“The UTD Top 100 also is a useful tool for our fellow academicians and other business schools to benchmark their research progress,” School of Management Senior Associate Dean Varghese Jacob added. “It documents output in a central location that’s accessible to everyone.”
On the North American list, the remaining top 10 schools include The Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, The Booth School of Business at The University of Chicago, Stanford University Graduate School of Business, Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business and The McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas.
