One-Stop Shop: The Student Services Building
The Student Services Building borders the mall immediately south of the Student Union.
UT Dallas Dedications |
The Student Services Building is a one-stop center that houses many of the primary departments that students need to do business during the course of their relationship with UT Dallas.
The four-story building also includes large common areas, enabling current and prospective students to meet with advisers and staff members and to work with one another in informal settings.
SSB has a limestone façade that appears to float from various vantage points within. The architect designed the facility as a LEED Platinum Building, which means it’s been developed with the highest level of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification that a building can achieve.
Most importantly, the building was largely a student-driven initiative.
“From the beginning, our students worked closely with President Daniel, me and other administrators, and eventually approved a referendum to add a $71 fee to their own tuition that would make their dream a reality,” said Darrelene Rachavong, vice president for Student Affairs. “In doing so, they ushered a proposal that could have taken years to develop to reality in just a few years.”
The artfully designed façade makes the building appear to float when viewed from various vantage points.
The building is designed to be certified as LEED Platinum, the highest energy- savings rating available.
