Theodore "Ted" Yu

Four students, an advisor and a student organization at UT Dallas have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to campus life at the annual Student Leadership Awards.

The Student Leader of the Year award was presented to Theodore “Ted” Yu, a senior in molecular biology in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, for his innovative attitude, leadership and dedication in his work with the Student Union & Activities Advisory Board (SUAAB).

“Ted is outstanding. His attention to the triple bottom line serves not only the University and its students, but our student leaders,” one of his nomination letters read. “His growth and dedication to SUAAB and the development of his servant leadership philosophy warrant recognition as Student Leader of the Year.”

Annie Benjamin, assistant director of Student Leadership Programs, said the awards highlight the University’s commitment to empower students to become the leaders of the future.

“The awards are designed to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our exceptional student leaders, student organizations and organizational advisors. Their legacy will continue to inspire the future student leaders of UT Dallas,” Benjamin said.

Other winners were:

The Patty Atchley Service to Student Life Award — Bogdan Bordieanu, senior, School of Natural Science and Mathematics. The award honors students who go above and beyond the call of duty to improve student life at UT Dallas.

Community Service Award — Mohammad Nafis Bin Nasim, PhD student, School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences. The award recognizes outstanding service to the community.

Rising Star Award — Mikayla Garvey, freshman, Naveen Jindal School of Management. This award honors freshmen and sophomores who have shown outstanding leadership abilities.

Advisor of the Year Award — Shereada Harrell, associate director of employer relations, Career Center. This award recognizes outstanding dedication and service.

The Golden CometVietnamese Student Association. This award honors a student organization for its positive impact on the campus and surrounding community.
