University Celebrates 55 Doctoral Graduates During Summer Ceremony

Aug. 24, 2017

  • Dr. Britt Berrett PhD'09, clinical professor and director of the healthcare management program in the Naveen Jindal School of Management, was keynote speaker for the summer doctoral hooding ceremony. Berrett encouraged newly minted PhDs to be kind and thoughtful as well as passionate about their research and work.

The University of Texas at Dallas recognized 55 doctoral candidates in August who attained the highest rung of the academic ladder.

The graduates were seated next to their faculty mentors who guided them in their journey to complete their degrees. As each name was called, the faculty advisors joined Dr. Marion Underwood, dean of graduate studies, in placing the velvet-edged doctoral hoods over the graduates’ heads. Many graduates hugged their mentors for their years of academic guidance.

The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science had the largest number of doctoral graduates recognized at this summer’s ceremony with 20, followed by the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics with 13.

The Naveen Jindal School of Management had eight; the School of Arts and Humanities had five; the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences had four; the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences had three; and the School of Arts, Technology and Emerging Communication had two.
