New Program to Help Balance Daily Needs

UT Dallas students, staff and faculty members looking for pet sitters,  searching for summer camps for their children or seeking community volunteer opportunities are the target users of a new UT Dallas initiative.

The program, called Workplace Options, addresses daily living needs such as childcare, education, elder care, wellness, and legal and financial issues. Its website offers monthly webinars and more than 5,000  articles, tips, resources, self-assessments and tools. Free and confidential round-the-clock telephone support is also offered.

The Galerstein Women’s Center at UT Dallas has brought the new program to campus. It is also an initiative of the Joint Subcommittee on Childcare and the Committee for the Support of Diversity and Equity at UT Dallas. The overarching purpose of the subcommittee is to contribute to the recruitment, retention, and productivity of faculty, staff and students by enhancing the quality and quantity of campus child care programs and services.

“Workplace Options is available to any member of the UT Dallas community. It is designed to help balance the responsibilities of work and everyday life. The program is free and provides a range of resource and referral services,” said Lauren M. DeCillis, director of the Women’s Center. DeCillis also serves as chair for the Subcommittee.

The Galerstein Women’s Center is designed to provide a supportive haven for students, staff and faculty.  The center offers meeting, reception and study space, and a lending library with gender-related books and videos. Providing professional counseling services, student scholarships, internships, volunteer opportunities and organizational advising are also a part of the Center’s mission.

“For the last 14 years, the Women’s Center has addressed a number of issues on campus . We have represented these issues on campus and in the community with different programs and events. The center advocates for an inclusive, safe environment that directly impacts, benefits and improves lives. Bringing the new Workplace Options program to UT Dallas is just another way to improve lives,” DeCillis added.
