Thank You

Students say thank you for the more than 22,000 gifts that helped the University reach its campaign goal early. The five-year campaign will continue through its scheduled end on Dec. 31.

Realize the Vision: The Campaign for Tier One & Beyond started quietly in 2009, publicly launched in 2012 and has now surpassed the goal almost a year early.

During the campaign, donors made more than $200 million in gifts and pledges for students, faculty research and programs vital to UT Dallas’ quest to become a Tier One university. The five-year campaign will continue through its scheduled end on Dec. 31.

President David E. Daniel shared the campaign’s success at the University’s 12th annual Awards Gala, where distinguished alumni and community leaders were celebrated.

We are so proud of and impressed by our alumni donors and other campaign supporters. I think our founders would be thrilled that so many people are carrying forward their vision.

Campaign donors are helping to provide for the University’s future by moving the endowment closer to the target of $400 million. In four years, the endowment has risen nearly 75 percent, from $195 million to more than $340 million. During that time, the number of funds that make up the endowment have doubled, including funds that support student scholarships and fellowships, as well as faculty chairs and professorships.

“All great universities benefit from the permanent resources generated by their endowments," said Dr. Aaron Conley, vice president for development and alumni relations. “Thanks to all our remarkable donors, we are closing in on our endowment target."

The campaign, which has raised about $227 million as of March 31, has drawn support from longtime friends of the University and also inspired many new contributors. During the first four years of the campaign, UT Dallas received 22,074 gifts. These include gifts from alumni, friends, companies, foundations, staff, faculty and other organizations. By comparison, the four-year period prior to the campaign’s 2009 commencement drew a total of 13,687 gifts.

“The University’s push to Tier One will succeed with the support of donors, volunteers and advocates at all levels,” Daniel said. “We are grateful for their support.”

The number of alumni who give annually has more than doubled during the campaign. Participation by alumni in annual giving to the University is a factor in many external rankings of university quality.

“We are so proud of and impressed by our alumni donors and other campaign supporters,” Daniel said. “I think our founders would be thrilled that so many people are carrying forward their vision.”
