CARE Award Winner Ed Bennett
Ed has been working for UTD for 33 years. He has been in the Office of Information Technology for all of those years. In that time, he has seen 4 University presidents and many changes within each department here at UT Dallas. When he first began working at UTD the enrollment was 7,442 students.
Ed has been a familiar face across campus in his role as the only full-time hardware technician. He has visited just about every department to help with printer and hardware issues. His supervisors have collected numerous thank you notes from faculty and staff all over campus.
In his spare time Ed likes to participate in the Corporate Challenge swimming events and when his knees were a little younger he played on the CC soccer team. He also coached soccer for seventeen years. He’s collected numerous trophies from those competitions. He has been a representative on the Staff Council for two years. He has also donated his time and resources to the National Kidney Foundation. He’s a sponsor for Boys Town and World Vision to support at-risk children. He has served in the Air Force for four and a half years after the Vietnam conflict.
I think if you ask Ed what he’s most proud of, it would be the mentorship he has provided to many student workers who worked alongside him in the Hardware department. It is amazing to see student workers from a decade ago come back to the University just to visit with Ed. It’s a testament to how much of an impact he has had in their lives.
