The Office of Information Technology and Student Government Association partnered with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Computer Science Department at The University of Texas Dallas on the HackUTD2019, a 24-hour campus event where hackathon attendees built apps, hardware and more.

Challenge 1

Build for UT Dallas Alexa Skill Challenge – The voice-first experience for UT Dallas students. The challenge required teams to think outside of the traditional development process and embrace a voice-first design approach, leading with the student experience.

Alexa, the voice service behind Amazon Echo, is changing how we interact with technology. Alexa can help students with quick access to information, entertainment, and increased productivity. The HACKUTD 2019 Alexa skill challenge asked teams to develop creative ideas that answered frequently asked questions by students at UT Dallas.

Challenge 2

Build for UT Dallas Application – The second challenge allowed teams to build an application on any platform, including a web app, Alexa skill, or mobile phone app. Teams were instructed not to copy functionality available on an already popular app. It also allowed teams to build an application not tailored toward UT Dallas students as long as it helped the student body.
