Installing and Connecting to GlobalProtect VPN

Installing and running from a Windows Device:

 

Installation

 

Step 1

  • Open your preferred web browser, navigate to https://utdvpn.utdallas.edu and then enter your UT Dallas credentials to sign in. If you are not already authenticated through DUO, you will be asked to do so via a push notification, text message or a phone call.

 Step 2

Before installing, it is important to know if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows. If you don’t know what version, you can follow the instructions below.

In order to determine this Select the Start button > Settings > System > About > Under Device specifications > System type, see if you’re running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows. Under Windows specifications, check which edition and version of Windows your device is running.

 Step 3

  • Click “Download Windows 64 bit GlobalProtect agent “or “Download Windows 32 bit GlobalProtect agent” depending on your Windows version.

 Step 4

  • After downloading the Global Protect Portal installer, you can save it to your Downloads folder or another preferred location. Open the Global Protect Portal MSI file then click Next.

 Step 5

  • Click Next

 Step 6

  • Click Next

  • Click Close

 

Running the VPN

 

Step 1

  • Open the GlobalProtect VPN client on your machine. You will be asked to provide the Portal Address, utdvpn.utdallas.edu.

 Step 2

  • You will be asked to sign in with your UT Dallas credentials and then if you are not already authenticated through DUO, you will be asked to do so via a push notification, text message or a phone call.

  Step 3

GlobalProtect will take a few seconds to reach the connection and then once connected, the client will display a “Connected” message informing you that you are actively connected to the UT Dallas VPN.

 

Installing and Running on a MAC device:

Step 1

  • Click Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect Agent.

 Step 3

  • After downloading the Global Protect Portal installer, you can save it to your “Downloads” folder or another preferred location. Open the Global Protect DMG file from your preferred saved location and Double-click the icon on your desktop. Click Continue.

 Step 4

  • If you are prompted with a Custom Install, leave “GlobalProtect” checked and deselect all of the other features then click Continue.

 Step 5

  • Click Install and then type in the Local User credentials. Then click Install Software.

 Step 6

  • During the installation you may get a pop-up.
  • Click “OK” to proceed.

 Step 7

  • Click Close.

 Step 8

  • After installing the application, enable Palo Alto Networks as a trusted developer.
    • From your Mac, launch System Preferences
    • Open the Security & Privacy preferences and then select the General tab
    • Click the lock icon on the bottom left of the window to make changes and modify preferences
    • When prompted, enter your Mac User Name and Password and then Unlock the preferences
    • Click “Allow” next to the message “System software from developer “Palo Alto Networks” was blocked from loading.”

Now you can connect to the VPN

 

Running the VPN

 

Step 1

  • Open the GlobalProtect VPN client on your machine. You will be asked to provide the Portal Address, utdvpn.utdallas.edu.

 Step 2

  • GlobalProtect will take a few seconds to reach the connection.

 Step 3
