UT Dallas VPN services allow users to remotely connect to the campus network in order to access on-premise resources. In order to utilize VPN services, you must first be enrolled for NetIDplus.

Once connected to the VPN, you will be able to:

Install GlobalProtect VPN for Windows

Step 1

  • Open your preferred web browser, navigate to https://utdvpn.utdallas.edu and then enter your UT Dallas credentials to sign in. If you are not already authenticated through DUO, you will be asked to do so via a push notification, text message or a phone call.

Step 2

Before installing, it is important to know if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows. If you don’t know what version, you can follow the instructions below.

In order to determine this Select the Start button > Settings > System > About > Under Device specifications > System type, see if you’re running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows. Under Windows specifications, check which edition and version of Windows your device is running.

Step 3

  • Click “Download Windows 64 bit GlobalProtect agent “or “Download Windows 32 bit GlobalProtect agent” depending on your Windows version.

  • After downloading the Global Protect Portal installer, you can save it to your Downloads folder or another preferred location. Open the Global Protect Portal MSI file then click Next.

Install GlobalProtect VPN for Mac

NOTE: GlobalProtect for Mac supports macOS 10.11 or higher.

  • Click Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect Agent.

  • After downloading the Global Protect Portal installer, you can save it to your “Downloads” folder or another preferred location. Open the Global Protect DMG file from your preferred saved location and Double-click the icon on your desktop. Click Continue.

  • If you are prompted with a Custom Install, leave “GlobalProtect” checked and deselect all of the other features then click Continue.

  • Click Install and then type in the Local User credentials. Then click Install Software.

  • During the installation you may get a pop-up.
  • Click “OK” to proceed.

  • After installing the application, enable Palo Alto Networks as a trusted developer.
    1. From your Mac, launch System Preferences
    2. Open the Security & Privacy preferences and then select the General tab
    3. Click the lock icon on the bottom left of the window to make changes and modify preferences
    4. When prompted, enter your Mac User Name and Password and then Unlock the preferences
    5. Click “Allow” next to the message “System software from developer “Palo Alto Networks” was blocked from loading.”
    6. Now you can connect to the VPN

Step 9

  • On MacOS Catalina and higher the popup below will ask for permissions to access the local folders ~/Downloads, ~/Desktop, and ~/Documents
  • You can either select Don’t Allow or OK for each of the three depending on whether you want to allow or block the access.

Connect GlobalProtect VPN for Windows

Step 1

  • Open the GlobalProtect VPN client on your machine. You will be asked to provide the Portal Address, utdvpn.utdallas.edu.

  • GlobalProtect will take a few seconds to reach the connection and then once connected, the client will display a “Connected” message informing you that you are actively connected to the UT Dallas VPN.

Connect GlobalProtect VPN for Mac

Step 1

Connect GlobalProtect VPN for iOS

Step 1

  • You will be redirected to the Single Sign On Login page. Enter in your UTD credentials (netid and password) to login.
  • You will then be directed to Duo two-factor authentication. Select the preferred method to receive a push or PIN (you will need to be enrolled in NetID plus to receive a pin or push).
    • Push: check DUO app for push notification
    • Call Me: will receive a call with instructions
    • Enter a Passcode: will send a set of codes to the registered phone number (enter in any one of the codes)

  • Return to the GlobalProtect app. Global Protect VPN will then show as connected.
  • You can confirm you are connected in the Settings app under ‘VPN’. This should show the established connection.

Connect GlobalProtect VPN for Android

Step 1

  • Return to the GlobalProtect app. If you do not connect automatically, click the connect button.
  • If you get the pop up message as shown in the image below, hit “OK” to allow the VPN connection.

Install Cisco VPN for Windows

Step 1

  • Open your preferred web browser and click here to download the Cisco AnyConnect installer for Windows operating systems.

Step 2

  • After downloading the AnyConnect installer for Cisco VPN, you can save it to your “Downloads” folder or another preferred location. Open the AnyConnect installer MSI file then click “Next

Step 3

  • Select the radio box next to I accept the terms in the License Agreement if you agree to the terms and conditions.
  • Click Next.

Step 4

  • Click Install.

Install Cisco VPN for Mac

NOTE: AnyConnect for Mac supports macOS 10.13 or higher.

Step 1

  • Open your preferred web browser and click here to download the Cisco AnyConnect installer for Mac OSX operating systems.

Step 2

  • After downloading the AnyConnect installer for Cisco VPN, you can save it to your “Downloads” folder or another preferred location. Open the AnyConnect DMG file from your preferred saved location and Double-click the icon on your desktop.

Step 3

  • Open the AnyConnect installer.

Step 4

  • Click Continue.

Step 5

  • Click Continue.

Step 6

  • Click Agree if you agree to the Terms and Conditions.

Step 7

  • If you are prompted with a Custom Install leave “VPN” checked and deselect all of the other features then click Continue.

 

Step 8

  • Click Install and then type in the Local User credentials. Then click Install Software.

  • You can close the installer once it finishes.

Install Cisco VPN for Linux

Step 1

  • Open your preferred web browser and click here to download the Cisco AnyConnect installer for Linux operating systems.

Step 2

  • After downloading the AnyConnect installer for Cisco VPN, you can save it to your Downloads folder or another preferred location.
  • Open a terminal and type \n
    cd ~/Downloads

    tar zxvf ./anyconnect-predeploy-linux-64-4.1.04011-k9.tar.gz

     

Step 3

  • Type cd anyconnect-4.1.04011/vpn and press Enter.

Step 4

  • Type sudo ./vpn_install.sh and press Enter.

Step 5

  • Type y if you agree to the terms in the license agreement.

Step 6

  • Once the installer is complete, the word Done! will appear in the terminal window.

Install Cisco VPN for Chrome OS

Step 1

  • Open your preferred web browser and click here to visit the Chrome Web Store page for Cisco AnyConnect.
  • Click on the button that says ADD TO CHROME

Step 2

  • Click on Add App

  • Launch the AnyConnect app
  • Click on Add New Connection

Step 4

  • Fill out the settings as follows:
    • Name: UTD VPN
    • Server Address: https://vpn.utdallas.edu
    • Click Save Changes

Desktop – Windows / Mac

Step 1

  • Launch the AnyConnect application and Type “https://vpn.utdallas.edu” in the text box then click “Connect.”

Step 2

  • Establishing a connection requires that you have already set up NetIDplus with Duo and have enrolled a device successfully.
  • Fill out the Settings as follows:
    • Group: UTD VPN Users
    • Username: NetID
    • Password: Your NetID password
    • Second Password: Your NetIDplus password (PIN)
    • Alternatively, enter one of the following as the second password:
      • Push Sends a request to your phone through the DUO app
      • Phone Calls the phone linked to your account for verification
      • SMS Sends a text message with usable PINs
  • Click “Ok.”

Step 3

  • Read and Accept the Terms of Use to finish connecting.

Step 4

  • You should now be able to use UT Dallas network resources through the Cisco VPN Connection. The following running program will be displayed in your system tray, showing an indicator depicting an active connection:

Mobile – Apple iOS

Be sure to install the Cisco AnyConnect app and launch the application before following these steps.

Step 1

  • Choose Connections and select Add VPN Connection….

Step 2

  • Enter the following into the information fields:
    • Name: UTD VPN
    • Server Address: vpn.utdallas.edu
  • Tap Save

Step 3

  • Activate the slider next to AnyConnect VPN on the main page.

Step 4

  • Enter the following into the information fields:
    • UTD NetID: Your NetID
    • Password: Your Password
    • NetIDplus: Your NetIDplus password (PIN)
    • Alternatively, enter one of the following as the second password:
      • Push Sends a request to your phone through the DUO app
      • Phone Calls the phone linked to your account for verification
      • SMS Sends a text message with usable PINs
    • Tap Connect.

Step 5

  • Tap Accept.
  • You should now have connection to the UTD network.

  • Choose Connections and select Add VPN Connection….

  • Tap Done

  • Activate the slider next to AnyConnect VPN on the main page.
  • App may show the Untrusted VPN Server page
    • Select Change Settings
    • Under Advanced Settings uncheck the box for Block Untrusted Server
    • Press the back arrow to return to the main page and activate the slider again
      • Press Continue if Untrusted Certification message appears

  • Enter the following into the information fields:
    • Username: Your NetID
    • Password: Your Password
    • NetIDplus: Your NetIDplus password (PIN)
    • Alternatively, enter one of the following as the second password:
