A Q&A with billiards champion Niraj Thapa

OIT Database Administrator Niraj Thapa recently took home the Gold medal at the Corporate Challenge Billiards Tournament, which took place on Sept. 29.
Niraj and his billiards partner Anjan Selvam Panneer, a UTD research scientist, competed in the men’s team of the tournament.

Interview conducted by ChinLin Pan

How long have you been playing billiards? How did you first get into it?
Niraj: I’ve been playing billiards for the past 15 years. I started during my junior year of high school when my parents taught me.

How did you first hear about the tournament?
Niraj: My supervisor told me about the tournament.

How did you feel about entering the competition?
Niraj: I was nervous at first. But then I thought I’ve been playing Billiards for a long time and I should be okay. Also my partner was pretty good.

Congratulations on winning! How did you feel when you won?
Niraj: It was an honor to represent UTD. I’ve been here for only about two months. So it was a great feeling for being able to represent UTD and also win the Gold for this institution.
