Power Dancers are the official dance team of UT Dallas. They perform for varsity athletic events and make special appearances on campus throughout the school year. They perform hip-hop, jazz and a variety of other dance styles. They also provide an opportunity for students to exercise initiative, leadership and creativity through dance. In addition, Power Dancers enjoy priority enrollment, which means they are one of the first groups to enroll each semester, no matter their academic classification.
Meet the Coach
Jacy Rae Barney is originally from northern California, where she trained in all styles of dance at Triple Threat Performing Arts. After moving to Los Angeles and signing with MSA talent Agency, she danced in the MTV Video Music Awards, in the movie “Easy A,” and in Monday night football commercials. She signed under R&B singer Ciara's label and had the opportunity to choreograph for the singer's Universal Dance and talent agency auditions.
Barney spent three seasons cheering for the Los Angeles Clippers, where she was selected to represent the NBA and perform in Taiwan, Beijing and Urumqi. She danced for the Dallas Cowboys Rhythm and Blue, the first and only co-ed Hip Hop team in the NFL. She was chosen to represent the United States in Barcelona, winning world titles as a member of the American Dance Company. Barney was crowned national “Miss Dance USA,” and won a collegiate dance title with Orange Coast College.
In addition to being a national adjudicator, she teaches and choreographs for competitive studios across the country, and her students have won numerous top/overall and national titles. Barney is excited to be at UT Dallas and share her passion for dance while motivating students to be their best.
