Illumina Next-Generation Sequencing Seminar with The University of Texas at Dallas | | November 14th, 2018, 11:30 AM | Office of Research Training Sessions

Please join the UTD Genome Center and Illumina for a next-generation sequencing (NGS) seminar.  Dr. Russ Carmical & Dr. Jeff Knight will cover the following topics:

  • How the NextSeq 500/550 Sequencing System can support your research;
  • The latest advancements in NGS technology and the research applications they enable;
  • Introduction to the newest library preparation techniques;
  • Introduction and presentation of BaseSpace and bioinformatics basics using Illumina's BaseSpace.


Registration is required.

Professional Series - Conflict of Interest for Graduate Students | | November 14th, 2018, 10:00 AM | Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Series

The Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Professional Series is a blended learning, multi-session series designed to engage the UT Dallas research community in contemporary issues in research ethics and scientific integrity. Workshops will provide instruction commensurate with grant funding requirements for the NIH and NSF.

In order to earn an RCR Professional Series certification, students, postdocs and staff, must complete the RCR Foundations Training and RCR Development Series plus two elective seminars. Elective seminars are presented by prominent University researchers in their fields of expertise.

Elective seminars will feature a variety of topics such as:

• Research Ethics - Avoiding the Pitfalls of Research Misconduct

• Mentor and Mentee Responsibilities and Relationships

• Human Subjects in Research

• Data Management and Ownership

Registration is required for attendance and seating is limited. Lite refreshments will be served.

Office of Research Core Facilities - Thermofisher Scientific Seminar | | November 6th, 2018, 11:30 AM | Office of Research Training Sessions

The Office of Research Core Facilities in conjunction with Thermofisher Scientific will present best practices for doing intracellular flow cytometry.

In order to earn an RCR Development Series certification, students, postdocs, and staff must complete the online RCR Foundations Training and attend the additional five core workshops.

Join the Offices of Sponsored Projects and Post Award Management as they guide you through the process of establishing a research gifts cost center. We will help you determine what is considered a research gift versus research grant, what documentation is needed and what should be submitted through workflow approval in order to receive a cost center.

SBIR Lunch & Learn | | October 17th, 2018, 11:30 AM | Office of Research Training Sessions

The UTD Office of Research will discuss best practices for researchers as they engage with small businesses to propose and perform SBIR/STTR program awards. Performing SBIR/STTR subcontracts can lead to productive, long-term relationships that result in additional funding, student opportunities, and licensing deals. During this session, Office of Research representatives will discuss proposal preparation, award management, and how to manage compliance with export control and conflict of interest regulations.
