Fall 2014 CARE Awards

CARE Recipients

The University of Texas at Dallas not only carries a reputation of academic excellence, it is home to a community of dedicated staff.

The Celebrate Achievement Reward Excellence (CARE) was established by the UT Dallas Staff Council to recognize and honor staff members who have “demonstrated superior performance, offered outstanding customer service, and performed acts which have enhanced the image of the University.”

As a way of recognizing those who have exemplified outstanding service to their offices, the following recipients were recognized on December 3, 2014, with the CARE award.

  • Judy Barnes — Director University Events, Office of the President
  • Czarina Cando — Web Developer, Student Affairs Marketing
  • Baldemar Flores — Maintenance Foreman, Facilities Management
  • Richard Grant — Bursar, Bursar-Operating
  • Rachelle Reilly — Director of Sponsored Projects, Research
  • Linda Sensibaugh — Administrative Assistant II, Callier Center Communication

A few of the recipients shared some comments so we could get to know them a bit more.

Rick Grant

Rick Grant“I have had the pleasure of serving UT Dallas in the Bursar Office for 14 years. I am current serving as an Assistant Director in charge of our front counter and the online payment system EZPAY. I am honored and humbled to have been nominated for the CARE award. To be chosen to receive this award is the highlight of my UT Dallas career. I want to also thank my coworkers in the Bursar office for their support.”

Rachell Reilly

Rachell Reilly“I work in the Office of Sponsored Projects, which is the office within Research that assists faculty who submit proposals to federal, state and private agencies to receive funding for research. I’ve been at UT Dallas since 2010. As Director of the Office of Sponsored Projects, I supervise ten staff who work closely with faculty to bring research dollars into the University. Everyone in our office is very knowledgeable about sponsoring agencies and their rules and regulations so that we can provide trustworthy advice to UT Dallas faculty, with the aim to help them succeed in getting research funding. I was surprised to receive the CARE award because going the extra mile for our faculty is something I see as my day-to-day job. It is truly an honor and means a lot to know that I can make a difference.”

Judy Barnes

Judy BarnesJudy Barnes is the Director of University Events in the Office of the President.  She joined UT Dallas 5 years ago on January 27, 2010. Judy’s entire working career has been in the event planning field.  She spent 25 years in corporate event planning before coming to UT Dallas.

In her role as Director of University Events, she oversees the team of event planners that coordinates all of the university-wide events as well as any events initiated out of the Office of the President.  These events include Commencement ceremonies, Investitures, annual New Faculty and Promotion events as well as special events such as dedications, luncheons/dinners, etc.  Upon receiving notification of her recent CARE Award, Judy responded, “I am very humbled by this recognition and to know it was initiated by the submission of a team member and peer is very fulfilling. As a planner, I am motivated by working behind the scenes with various support groups to design, develop and deliver efficient and enjoyable events for the university.”

Judy and her husband, Vince, reside in Frisco, Texas. They have two children, Emily and Travis, who are recent college graduates so a tuition-free, empty nest is on the horizon for them!  Judy enjoys traveling (cruising!), reading and watching/following sporting events of all kinds in her leisure time.

The Staff Council sends congratulation to all recipients!
