Are you looking to get a head start on your tough classes? Check out the Summer Success Workshop Series, hosted by award-winning faculty and led by Student Success Center content experts. These refresher courses will engage students and prepare them for the rigor of college classes. College 101, which is new to our slate of academic camps, is designed to help students navigate their first semester at UTD, focusing on topics not covered by your professors in lecture. Space is limited, so sign up early to reserve your spot.

Workshop Information:

General Chemistry Workshop+

The Chemistry success workshop is intended to address topics that students will need to be familiar with before entering CHEM 1311. This is a great way to refresh chemistry skills or get a head start for the upcoming semester. The camp is taught by UTD’s award-winning faculty Dr. Amandeep Sra, and is a cognitively rich program combining lecture and online activities. Topics include:

  • Math Spotlight: Metric System, Scientific Notation and Significant Figures
  • What’s in a Name? Chemical Nomenclature and Chemical reactions

Registration is free but spots are limited.

Camp A – Thursday, August 6th from 1pm-5pm
Camp B – Friday, August 7th from 1pm-5pm

Organic Chemistry Workshop+

The Organic Chemistry boot camp is an intensive, half-day workshop taught by Dr. Mihaela Stefan. The camp is designed to bridge and/or incorporate topics from General Chemistry into Organic Chemistry. The camp’s format includes: lecture and discussion with Dr. Stefan and her staff, as well as collaborative breakout sessions led by peer leaders. This camp is designed for students entering CHEM 2323 in the fall.

At the end of this camp, students should be able to:

  • Draw line-angle formulas for organic compounds and additional representations of organic compounds
  • Determine hybridization
  • Draw resonance structures for organic compounds and determine their stability

Camp B – Tuesday, August 11th from 1pm-5pm

Calculus Workshop+

The Calculus Workshop Series addresses introductory topics in first-semester calculus (MATH 2413 or MATH 2417). Topics include:

  • Introducing Limits and Examples
  • One-Sided Limits
  • Continuity
  • Limits as x approaches +∞ or -∞
  • The Tangent Line

The workshop includes mini-recorded lectures and interactive problem-solving sessions.

College 101 Workshop+

The College 101 Workshop Series addresses general topics students will benefit from at the start of their first semester. During the first week of fall classes, August 17-20, student and professional staff members from the Student Success Center will host virtual workshops covering core academic areas that first-time college students struggle with. Students can register for all workshops, or just one or two that interest them. Workshop topics include:

  • Time Management
  • Introduction to College Writing
  • Cracking the Syllabus
  • Succeeding in the Online Learning Environment
