Register for Orientation
Do I need to sign up for Transfer Orientation in advance?
Yes. You must pre-register to attend orientation. Walk-in students and guests will not be able to attend. Registration will close one week and three days prior to the orientation date or when all spots are filled, whichever happens first. In the past, transfer orientations have closed over a month in advance due to reaching seating capacity.

Can I modify my orientation registration?
Yes. You can switch sessions, add guests by modifying your order in Orion and paying the applicable fees. You cannot modify your registration after the session is closed. Transfer Orientation sessions will close one week and three days before a session date OR when the session reaches seating capacity; whichever happens first.
How do I get my UT Dallas Student Identification Number (UTD-ID)?
Your UTD-ID is a ten-digit number that acts as your unique identifier at UT Dallas (ex: 2012345678). You can find your UTD-ID in your acknowledgement email or acceptance letter. Contact the Office of Admission and Enrollment Services for additional help.
How do I get a NetID?
Visit the NetID and Password Setup page to create your NetID account. You will need your UTD-ID and date of birth to obtain your NetID (ex: abc123456).
How do I log into my UT Dallas email?
Students have their University email hosted through Office 365, with a 50GB storage quota. Students can find a bookmark to their email in the Galaxy Portal under the My Email tab. If you have questions or issues with your UT Dallas email please contact the Office of Information Technology’s Help Desk.
How do I accept my admission to UT Dallas?
To accept or decline your offer of admission, log in to Galaxy, then click Applicant Center. Select the option to Accept or Decline displayed in the My Applications table at the top of the page and follow the instructions. This is not a binding agreement to enroll.
How do I log into eLearning?
Use your NetID and password to log into eLearning.
I have accepted my admission, but I am unable to log into eLearning.
In order to complete the Transfer Orientation Pre-Orientation Module in eLearning, you must first register and pay to attend a Transfer Orientation session on your Galaxy account. Students are encouraged to complete the Pre-Orientation Module at least one week before their orientation session date.
I have accepted my admission, registered, and paid for Transfer Orientation, but I don't see Transfer Orientation's Pre-Orientation Activity.
It will take about one week after you register and pay to attend a Transfer Orientation session before you will see the Transfer Orientation Pre-Orientation Activity in eLearning. If it has been more than one week, please call the Transfer Student Services office at 972-883-6170 or email [email protected]. Please use your UT Dallas email account to send the email.
I will attend UT Dallas in the summer. Which orientation should I go to?
Students admitted to summer 2018 will attend orientations March - May 2018. Summer admits are not eligible to attend spring orientations. Transfer Orientation offers priority registration, with earliest access to classes. Attending orientation is the only way to register for Summer 2018 classes before May 11, 2018. Students admitted to Summer 2018 who do not or cannot attend a Transfer Orientation need to make arrangements to meet with their academic advisor. The Summer 2018 Transfer Orientation hold will be removed on May 11, 2018.
I will attend UT Dallas in the fall. Which orientation should I go to?
Students admitted to fall 2018 will attend orientations March - August 2018. Fall admits are not eligible to attend spring orientations.
How much does Transfer Orientation cost?
Transfer Orientation registration is $50 for students and $25 for guests. The fee includes: general session, breakout sessions, orientation booklet, name tag, T-shirt (student only), breakfast and lunch.
What is the refund policy?
No refunds will be given for cancellations received after 5 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2017. To submit a request to cancel all or part of your Transfer Orientation, please call 972-883-6170. No refunds will be given for no-shows or cancellations for any reason after October 9, 2017.
Can I bring a guest to attend orientation with me?
All guests must be registered to attend transfer orientation. One guest is allowed per student. Register and pay for your guest at the same time you register yourself.
Walk-ins will not be permitted to attend. Due to the nature of some of the material covered, guests under the age of 16 are discouraged.
What should I complete before Transfer Orientation?
Have all holds removed from your Galaxy account because they will prevent you from registering for classes. Holds may take several days to resolve, so it is recommended that you plan ahead.
Some holds can be discussed with academic advisors at Transfer Orientation:
- Your "Cannot Register Online" hold will be removed after you meet with an academic advisor at orientation.
- Some transfer students have a "TSI" hold. Please check your UT Dallas email to see if you have been sent a notification to take the Texas Success Initiative Assessment. If you have not, then please ask your academic advisor about your hold at orientation.
In addition to resolving holds:
- Complete the Transfer Pre-Orientation Online Module at least a week before attending your Transfer Orientation.
- Check your @utdallas.edu email regularly because that is how UT Dallas will keep in contact with you. Your academic advising office may email you additional tasks to complete before orientation.
- Review the Pardon Our Progress website. The UT Dallas campus is under construction; walkways or roads could be closed on orientation day.
- Apply for financial aid and/or student veteran benefits.
- Apply for housing if you plan to live on campus.
How do I get to UT Dallas?
View the directions to UT Dallas and campus map for more information. Check the Pardon Our Progress page before arriving to campus. The UT Dallas campus is under construction; walkways or roads may be temporarily closed. The campus map will not show temporary closures.
Where is Transfer Orientation on the UT Dallas campus?
Location varies by orientation date. You will be sent a check-in location for the orientation you have registered to attend. Details will be sent to the your UT Dallas email one week before the orientation.
What time should I arrive?
Optional Pre-Orientation Campus Tour: An optional campus walking tour will be offered at 7:45 a.m. Please arrive to the check-in location noted in your confirmation email by 7:35 a.m. to attend the optional tour.
Check-In Time: The first session begins at 9 a.m. Students should arrive at check-in at least 30 minutes before the first session. Students and guests who are more than 30 minutes late will not be permitted to enter the orientation session. The student would need to register and pay to attend an upcoming orientation session. No refunds will be given to a student or guest who are not permitted to attend the orientation due to a late arrival.
What is the agenda?
Transfer Orientation is a one day program from check in at 8:30am to dismissal at 4:00pm. Students and guests will receive an agenda during check in. In the morning, students and guests will hear from University administrators and students about what to expect from UT Dallas and hear important information about various departments and services UT Dallas has to offer. The International Center will host a breakout session for international transfer students to connect and learn more about their specific services. During lunch, student veterans will be offered a breakout session hosted by the Military and Veteran Center. In the afternoon, students and guests will hear school-specific information, view a presentation from Career Center advisors, and attend a group academic advising session.
Breakfast: Breakfast is available from 7:30am to 9:00am.
What do I need to bring?
- Campus map to get around campus easily.
- Temporary parking permit (sent to your UT Dallas email one week before orientation).
- State-issued picture ID or passport.
- Your UTD-ID number and NetID.
- Any outstanding documents.
- Unofficial copies of your transcript(s) to better assist your meeting with academic advisors.
- List of questions for your academic advisor.
What is the dress code for orientation?
Transfer Orientation dress is casual. Session rooms can be cold; wearing layers of clothing will help you stay comfortable throughout the day. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes, as you will be walking around campus during orientation.
Do you provide overnight accommodations to students and guests?
No. Students and guests must make their own overnight accommodations. There are several hotels near UT Dallas that offer overnight accommodations.
Is orientation mandatory?
Transfer Orientation offers priority registration, with earliest access to classes. Attending orientation is the only way to register for Spring 2018 classes before December 8, 2017. Classes fill up quickly, so it is to your advantage to attend. Orientation also provides vital information about UT Dallas and ensures you meet with an academic advisor and register for classes.
I previously attended a transfer or freshman orientation at UT Dallas. Do I need to attend again?
You should attend an orientation designated for your first semester at UT Dallas. If you defer your admission and had previously attended an orientation, you will not need to attend another orientation within 12 months. If your deferral or reapplication period is longer than 12 months, a "Transfer Orientation" hold will be added to your account. This does not apply to graduate/PhD students and international students.
Please note, you must have attended the orientation as a student for the above policy to apply.
Example: A student attends Transfer Orientation for spring 2017. They can defer their enrollment to summer 2017, fall 2017 or spring 2018 without attending another orientation. If the student defers to summer 2018 or later, they will have a "Transfer Orientation" hold placed on their account. The student will not be able to register for classes until they attend a transfer orientation or they wait until the hold is lifted after the last orientation session.

How do I register for classes if I cannot attend Transfer Orientation?
You will have to wait to register for Spring classes until December 8, 2017. In addition to the "Transfer Orientation" hold, new students have a "Cannot Register Online" hold that requires them to meet with an academic advisor. If you do not attend orientation, it is your responsibility to schedule an appointment with your academic advisor.

I deferred my admission to UT Dallas. Will I need to attend a transfer orientation before registering for classes?
If you have previously attended a UT Dallas transfer orientation as a student in the past 12 months, you will not need to attend a transfer orientation before registering for classes. If you have not attended a UT Dallas transfer orientation in the past 12 months, you will need to attend transfer orientation before you will be able to register for classes. Students should contact the Office of Admission and Enrollment Services for questions about deferring admission. Restrictions and deadlines apply.
Financial Aid, Scholarships, Changing Major, and Housing
How can I apply for financial aid?
Visit the Applying for Financial Aid page or contact the Financial Aid Office at 972-883-2941 for details regarding financial aid options, short-term loans and deadlines. You must be admitted to UT Dallas before the Financial Aid Office will process your financial aid application. However, you can submit the financial aid application before you are admitted.
How can I apply for a UT Dallas scholarship?
Visit the Transfer Scholarships page to learn more about available scholarships and their eligibility requirements. The Financial Aid Office also has a list of available scholarships at UT Dallas. Fall transfer students should review the eligibility requirements for the Terry Foundation Transfer Scholarship.
Can I change my admitted major?
Post admission major changes are subject to the approval of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the school of the new intended major. Students are encouraged to start the process as soon as possible. Students can read more about the major change process in the academic catalog. Students can also discuss major changes with their academic advisor.
How can I apply for on-campus housing?
Visit the University Housing website for details. Contact Residential Life for questions about living on campus. Eligibility for campus housing is tied to admission and spots fill up quickly, so apply early. Contact Residential Life as soon as possible if you are interested in housing.
