The Serenity Prayer

Grocery List

Louise Redden, a poorly dressed lady with a look of defeat on her face,
walked into a grocery store. She approached the owner of the
store in a most humble manner and asked if he would let her charge
a few groceries. She softly explained that her husband was very ill and
unable to work, they had seven children and they needed food.

John Longhouse, the grocer scoffed at her and requested that she leave his store.
Visualizing the family needs, she said: 'Please, sir! I will bring you
the money just as soon as I can."
John told her he could not give her credit, as she did not have a
charge account at his store.

Standing beside the counter was a customer who overheard the
conversation between the two. The customer walked forward and told
the grocer that he would stand good for whatever she needed for her
family.

The grocer said in a very reluctant voice,
"Do you have a grocery list?

Louise replied, "Yes sir"

"O.K." he said, "put your grocery list on the scales and whatever
your grocery list weighs, I will give you that amount in groceries."

Louise, hesitated a moment with a bowed head, then she reached into
her purse and took out a piece of paper and scribbled something on
it.

She then laid the piece of paper on the scale carefully with her
head still bowed. The eyes of the grocer and the customer showed amazement
when the scales went down and stayed down.

The grocer, staring at the scales, turned slowly to the customer
and said begrudgingly, "I can't believe it."

The customer smiled and the grocer started putting the groceries on
the other side of the scales. The scale did not balance so he
continued to put more and more groceries on them until the scales
would hold no more.

The grocer stood there in utter disgust. Finally, he grabbed the
piece of paper from the scales and looked at it with greater
amazement. It was not a grocery list, it was a prayer, which said:

"Dear Lord, you know my Needs and I am leaving this in your hands".

The grocer gave her the groceries that he had gathered and stood in
stunned silence. Louise thanked him and left the store.

The customer handed a fifty-dollar bill to the grocer and said,
"It was worth every penny of it."
Only God Knows how much a prayer weighs.

Giving Tree

A long time ago, there was a huge apple tree. A little boy loved to come and play around it everyday. He climbed to the tree top, ate the apples, took a nap under the shadow...He loved the tree and the tree loved to play with him.
Time went by... the little boy had grown up and he no longer played around the tree every day. One day, the boy came back to the tree and he looked sad.

"Come and play with me," the tree asked the boy.
"I am no longer a kid, I don't play around trees anymore." The boy replied,
"I want toys. I need money to buy them." "Sorry, but I don't have money... but you can pick all my apples and sell them. So, you will have money."

The boy was so excited. He grabbed all the apples on the tree and left happily. The boy never came back after he picked the apples. The tree was sad. One day, the boy returned and the tree was so excited. "Come and play with me" the tree said. "I don't have time to play. I have to work for my family. We need a house for shelter. Can you help me?" "Sorry, but I don't have a house. But you can chop off my branches to build your house." So the boy cut all the branches of the tree and left happily.

The tree was glad to see him happy but the boy never came back since then.
The tree was again lonely and sad.

One hot summer day, the boy returned and the tree was delighted. "Come and
play with me!" the tree said.
"I am sad and getting old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?"

"Use my truck to build your boat. You can sail far away and be happy." So the boy cut the tree trunck to make a boat. He went sailing and never showed up for a long time. Finally, the boy returned after he left for so many years. "Sorry, my boy. But I don't have anything for you any more.

"No more apples for you... "the tree said.
"I don't have teeth to bite" the boy replied.

"No more truck for you to climb on"
"I am too old for that now" the boy said.

"I really can't give you anything ... the only thing left is my dying roots" the tree said with tears.
"I don't need much now, just a place to rest. I am tired after all these years." The boy replied.

"Good! Old tree roots is the best place to lean on and rest. Come, Come sit down with me and rest."

The boy sat down and the tree was glad and smiled with tears.......

This is a story of everyone. The tree is our parent. When we were young, we loved to play with Mom and Dad...When we grown up, we left them... only came to them when we need something or when we are in trouble. No matter what, parents will always be there and give everything they could to make you happy. You may think the boy is cruel to the tree but that's how all of us are treating our parent.

I Love You

I can not promise you that
I will not change
I can not promise you that
I will not have many different moods
I cannot promise you that
I will not hurt your feelings sometimes
I can not promise you that
I will not be erratic
I can not promise you that
I will always be strong
I can not promise you that
my faults will not show
But -
I do promise you that
I will always be supportive of you
I do promise you that
I will share all my thoughts
and feelings with you
I do promise you that
I will give you freedom to be yourself
I do promise you that
I will understand everything that you do
I do promise you that
I will be completely honest with you
I do promise you that
I will laugh and cry with you
I do promise you that
I will help you achieve all your goals
But -
most of all
I do promise you that I love you

SERENITY PRAYER (adapted)

Lord, give me the
Serenity to
accept-even joyfully- that part of myself that I can't
change,
the Courage to change that
part of myself that I ought to change,
and the
wisdom to know
one from the other.
