Design Improvements for the Zenith 601 HDS:
Fuel Pump Switches
Fuel Pump Switches
The switches for the two fuel transfer pumps are mounted
to the right of the ignition switches. Confusion of the two
sets of switches
is avoided by mounting the primer pump between them.
The fuel transfer switches are spring loaded since it is easy to forget
that they need to be turned off when the center tank is full.
In that scenario, the center tank becomes flooded
and excess fuel is dumped overboard via the main tank vent.
As a result, fuel fumes enter the cabin via the tail cone, a very dangerous
event.
