Request for Proposals
Collaborative U. T. Dallas-SPRING Research and Nanotechnology Transfer Program
Purpose: To foster collaborative research programs between faculty at U. T. Dallas, other SPRING partners and AFOSR researchers and/or nanotechnology transfer between U. T. Dallas researchers and industry.

Who can apply:
Proposals require at least one Research Faculty Investigator from U. T. Dallas and at least one Research Investigator from either the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), another SPRING partner or industrial partner. Collaborations with AFOSR and/or industry will be given higher priority for funding. The U. T. Dallas investigator(s) should be designated as the PI and the other(s) as Co-PIs. A U. T. Dallas faculty member can appear as PI, Co-PI, collaborating researcher or participating researcher in only one (1) proposal (submitted to any participating SPRING institution) in response to this 2006 solicitation. PI’s, Co-PIs, collaborators and participants who have currently funded Collaborative U. T. Dallas-SPRING grants (2005 solicitation) are not eligible.
Scope:
The target collaborations for support, in order of priority, are:
i) nanotechnology transfer with industry,
ii) direct collaborations with Air Force researchers (AFRL); and
iii) collaborations with other SPRING university partners.
For proposals involving an industrial partner, priority will be given in accordance with the degree of commitment of the industrial partner. Financial support, in-kind support and letters of interest reflect three levels of commitment and will be weighed accordingly. For collaborations with AFRL researchers, priority will be given to those proposals judged most likely to lead to long-term collaborations that may be subsequently funded directly by the AFOSR.
Topics of Focus:
Not in any order:
- Sensors
- Energy on demand, and
- Nanoelectronics
Award Amounts:
Grants are intended to seed collaborative efforts in these target areas. These awards are for two years and up to $150,000 in total may be requested for this period for U. T. Dallas researchers. This is the amount that UTD affiliated researchers will have direct control over. Some SPRING partner institutions may provide matching funds to their affiliated Co-PI's. This is strongly encouraged, but this is not a requirement for selection. When budgets are submitted, the U. T. Dallas Research Faculty Investigator is limited to 1 month summer support per year.
Distribution of Funds:
Awarded funds will be distributed according to the scope of work and budget justified in the proposal.
Proposal Submission Process:
One original, an electronic copy, and six hard copies of each collaborative proposal to be considered should be submitted to:
