RESEARCH GRANT WRITING (HCS 7372)

University Research Committee approval.

(Working with the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects).

ORSP Home Page

ORSP has its own approval process (particularly for grants with ANY budget flexibility) that each UTD sponsored grant must go through.

First, you MUST obtain a checklist and other forms from UTD Research Forms.

If the need for this is unclear, see UTD intellectual property policy.

Next, if you are doing animal or human subject research, your path varies (click one to obtain the necessary forms and instructions, in Word format).

Fill all of these forms out (human subject researchers will also need confidential info. disclosure forms), and take them and a rough copy of your proposal to the ORSP office. They will be glad to tell you what else to do.

The University's Office of Research and Sponsored Projects is charged with guiding you through the grant submission process, helping you obtain forms or sample proposals, helping you establish contact with the agency, and mailing your proposal. They also act as your liaison to administrative officials (Dean and Vice President for Business Affairs) who must see and sign each proposal before it goes out. They prefer to help you from near the beginning of the process rather than commiserating with you after the missed deadline or unsuccessful attempt! They WILL NOT edit your draft, type forms, or photocopy for you. As deadlines approach, their workload increases tremendously. Plan accordingly!
